Raises concern over the issue faced by the local residents
Srinagar, June 07: Socio-Political activist Syed Basharat Moosa today took stock of the pressing issues faced by the residents of Gund-i-Panah during his extensive visit.
Moosa emphasized the urgent need for infrastructural improvements to enhance connectivity and quality of life in the village that has been neglected so far.
He noted that while macadamisation has reached up to the area, extending the road by an additional 3 kilometers to Talpora is crucial.
“This extension would connect the village to the popular tourist destination, Doodhpathri, thereby increasing tourist footfall and promoting local exploration,” he said.
Highlighting the dire need for better electrical infrastructure, Moosa pointed out that the current 100 KVA transformer is dilapidated and insufficient for the village’s 140 households. He urged for an upgrade to a 200 KVA transformer or the installation of an additional unit to manage the electrical load effectively.
He also brought attention to the community’s graveyard, located 1 kilometer away.
“During winter, heavy snowfall poses significant challenges for funeral processions. The lack of a concrete road exacerbates these difficulties year-round, calling for immediate action to build a proper access road,” he asserted.
Moreover, safety concerns were raised regarding the makeshift electrical poles made from trees and broken branches, which support the village’s wiring.
Moosa called for the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) to install proper electric steel tubular poles to prevent potential hazards to life and property.
He further highlighted the incomplete water supply scheme. “Although water lines have been laid from Doodhpathri, they have yet to be connected to the source, leaving the village without a reliable water supply,” he lamented.
The condition of the local school was another major concern raised by Moosa while he described the school’s structure as unsafe, with cracked walls and an unstable roof, forcing students to study outdoors or in corridors during inclement weather. He stressed the need for immediate renovation to ensure the safety and well-being of the students.
Syed Basharat Moosa fervently called upon Deputy Commissioner Budgam Akshay Labroo to address these issues urgently and provide much-needed relief to the residents of Gund-i-Panah.
