Budgam, June 10: Socio-political activist Syed Basharat Moosa today visited Mujpathir area in Khan Sahib Constituency, engaging with local residents and particularly focusing on the youth.
During the visit, Moosa underscored the urgent need for micro-financing initiatives to support artisans across the 56 villages in District Budgam.
Moosa articulated a visionary plan to revitalize the local economy through strategic partnerships and innovative financial solutions.
“We aim to invigorate the handicraft sector by establishing a wool procurement agreement with the Gujjar-Bakerwal community. This inclusive economic strategy will provide locals with the means to earn a dignified livelihood,” he asserted.
Elaborating on his comprehensive development strategy, Moosa emphasized the establishment of processing centers and the provision of micro-financing for sheep rearing.
“Our endeavor is to streamline wool procurement and enhance meat production, addressing the mutton shortage in Jammu and Kashmir. Building upon the initiatives launched by the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, we seek to create sustainable economic opportunities,” he explained.
In addition to livestock initiatives, Moosa detailed plans to bolster organic vegetable cultivation, following meticulous soil testing and preliminary studies.
“The fertile lands from Raythan-Dragar to Mujpathir are ideal for cultivating organic vegetables, maize, potatoes, and pulses. Enhancing agricultural productivity in these areas will significantly bolster the local economy,” he noted.
Moosa also proposed targeted projects for economically disadvantaged groups, including mushroom cultivation and honey farming, which require minimal investment but offer substantial economic returns. “For low-budget entrepreneurs, we will initiate mushroom cultivation and honey farming projects, providing viable and sustainable income opportunities,” he said.
Highlighting Budgam’s vast agricultural potential, Moosa remarked, “Budgam’s economy is fundamentally driven by farmers, producers, and growers. It is imperative to explore and finance these sectors to empower the local youth and stimulate economic growth
